You won't want to leave and you will certainly want to come back...

Tarbert is the island's main town and ferry port - it is small, friendly and quiet with several good places to eat.  There are two (2) hotels with public and lounge bars and a variety of shops including a newsagent, butcher, baker, general grocer, post office and craft/ tweed shops.

Lunches and evening meals are served at both the Hotel Hebrides, Harris Hotel and the First Fruits Tearoom (the latter is only open during the holiday season).

There is a garage for both fuel & repairs, a Bank of Scotland and a Link ATM outside the Tourist Information Centre - where the staff are very helpful. 

Public transport is available to all areas of Harris & Lewis and various boat trips can be arranged during your stay, or booked in advance.

Bunavoneader is a hamlet 4 miles north of Tarbert and has an art gallery and honesty box for fresh hen eggs.  It is also the site of an old Whaling station.  On the way there from Tarbert, you will pass through Ardhasaig which has a garage for fuel, general store and lovely a la carte dining at Ardhasaig House.

The beautiful beaches on the west coast of Harris are perfect for picnics whilst the east coast has a more dramatic rocky landscape.  Touring Harris and the adjoining Isle of Lewis feels like exploration and there are many art galleries, craft/ tweed shops, places to eat, museums and archaeological sites to visit.

For an active holiday, try power-kiting and surfing, paint balling and go-karting on Lewis or the more traditional walks, golf and fishing on Harris.
